Frequently asked questions

Will the formatting be preserved?

Text and paragraph structure carry over cleanly; complex multi-column layouts or heavily designed pages may need minor manual cleanup in Word, since PDF has no native concept of editable columns.

Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?

Run OCR PDF on it first — scanned pages have no underlying text layer, so a direct PDF-to-Word conversion of a scan will produce an empty or image-only document.

Does it work with tables?

Yes, table structure is detected and rebuilt as native Word tables where the source PDF has clear cell boundaries.

Why does my Word file look different from the PDF?

Because a PDF does not store paragraphs — it stores glyphs at fixed coordinates. Conversion has to infer the document back out of that, so text and page breaks come across reliably while heavily designed multi-column layouts reflow. Expect an editable draft, not a pixel copy.

Can I open the result in Google Docs or Pages?

Yes. The output is a standard DOCX, so it opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice Writer and Apple Pages without conversion.

I only need the text, not a Word file. Is there a faster way?

If you want the words for notes or a prompt rather than a document to edit, PDF to Markdown gives you clean structured text in one step. Use PDF to Word when the deliverable really is a Word document.
