Frequently asked questions

Where are the numbers placed?

Centered horizontally, 18 points up from the bottom edge of each page, in grey 10pt Helvetica. The position is fixed and chosen to sit inside a normal document margin without colliding with body text.

What number formats can I choose?

Two: a plain running count (1, 2, 3 …) or a count with the total (1 / 12, 2 / 12 …). The second is the safer choice for anything printed and physically handed over, since a reader can tell immediately if a page is missing.

Can I start numbering at a page other than 1?

No — numbering always starts at 1 on the first page. If you need a cover page left unnumbered, split it off with Split PDF, number the remainder, then re-attach the cover with Merge PDF.

Will numbers overlap content already at the bottom of my pages?

They can, if your document already prints a footer in that exact spot. Check the first and last page after running it — and if there's a collision, crop or regenerate the source with a larger bottom margin first.

What if my document already shows page numbers?

You will end up with two sets. This stamps a fresh number onto every page without reading what is already printed there, so a document exported with its own numbering needs those removed at the source first — or accept that the stamped count is the one that matches the actual file.
